What Causes Body Damage on Cars?

When you’re trying to keep your car looking as new as possible, you might find that there’s a lot working against you. Collision Correction & Customs has some information for you about what can cause damage to your car’s paint and body.

Acts of Nature

Lots of body damage on cars is attributed to Mother Nature, unfortunately. Whether that means that some wind knocks things around that bump into your car or hail rains down, you might experience a tiny bit of damage or severe dents and scratches. The best protection for your car from weather-related damage is to have the car protected in a garage, carport, or under a car cover. And even then, sometimes serious natural disasters can still cause damage to the car.

People Can Be Careless

As amazing as it is to realize, not everyone is as careful and conscientious about your car as you would be about theirs. That can mean that parking lots of all kinds can be more hazardous to your car than you want them to be. You might be able to use a car cover, but that can get tedious if you’re in and out of the car a lot. It is also important to be aware of where you’re parking and whether you’re able to leave space between your car and other peoples’ vehicles.

Car Cleaning Can Be a Problem

It’s so much easier to clean your car by going through a car wash, but sometimes they’re not as gentle on your car as you might expect. A hand wash is definitely the optimal choice, but even that can be problematic if you use too much pressure. Be careful with the cleaning options that you use and do get your car cleaned regularly. Leaving dirt and debris on the car can cause damage as well, like scratches and even pollen eating through the clear coat and paint. None of that is good news.

Driving Causes More Damage than You Might Realize

So much can hit your car while you’re driving, and most of it is fairly tiny. But those little rocks and even smaller bits of dust can do some damage over time to your car’s paint and body. That’s because you’re driving and the debris is hitting your car at a good rate of speed, even if you’re driving at slower temperatures. Over time, that leads to scratches and dings.
