When Should You Take Your Car to an Auto Body Shop?

An auto body shop can do a lot more for your car than you might think, especially if you think all they can do is fix paint. There’s a lot more to auto body repair, and Collision Correction and Customs has these tips for you about when you might want to consider stopping by a body shop.

After an Accident

It may be most obvious to you to take your car to an auto body shop after a wreck, but there are lots of reasons for that. Even a minor wreck can cause damage you can’t see or feel, but that makes a huge difference in the safety of your car. If the frame is bent, for instance, you may not realize it. A collision repair shop can fully assess the damage to your car and let you know exactly what you’re up against.

When You’ve Spotted Rust Forming

Rust is a chemical reaction that occurs as air and water oxidize metal. Rust isn’t just unattractive, though. Left to its own devices, rust literally eats away at metal. If you’ve spotted rust forming on your car, it might not be too late to stop the long-term damage. But you need to get your car to an auto body shop right away.

After Hail Damage

Hail can do a lot of damage to your car in a very short period of time. The big problem with hail isn’t so much that it leaves dents, but that the impact can cause paint and primer to crack. When that happens, you’ve got a much bigger risk of rust forming. Hail can also crack and shatter window glass, which is something you need to have repaired right away.

To Repair Dings, Dents, and Scratches

Over time, every car eventually collects its fair share of small dings, scratches, and dents. These aren’t usually a huge problem, but there may come a point when they are either bigger or there’s just too many of them. Again, this can be a purely aesthetic concern, but it’s also important to consider the impact of this damage. When they’re deep enough, scratches, dents, and dings can get down to the bare metal, which again opens the door for rust to form.
